The Economic Relations Division (ERD), a key arm of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Finance, orchestrates the mobilization and management of external economic resources. Established in 1976 and headquartered in Sher‑e‑Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, ERD serves as the government’s central liaison with global development partners, including bilateral agencies, multilateral institutions, and international organizations.

ERD’s mission is clear: to secure loans and grants that power Bangladesh’s socio-economic growth and support national development strategies. Its core functions include assessing aid requirements, negotiating agreements, devising external economic policy, and coordinating assistance inflows.

Organizationally, ERD is structured into ten specialized wings, each dedicated to different global partners—from the World Bank and UN to regional entities such as the ADB and NORDIC countries. It also maintains nine economic wings embedded within Bangladeshi missions abroad, ensuring seamless diplomatic and financial cooperation.

In recent initiatives, ERD launched the International Climate Finance Cell to channel climate-related funding , facilitated agreements like BALLOT for transparent elections , and supported food and nutrition security through FAO partnerships.

With a vision of sustainable socio‑economic development and a mission focused on strengthening international relations and aid effectiveness, ERD plays a pivotal role in ensuring that foreign assistance aligns with Bangladesh’s national priorities
